About Al
Al is the ultimate builder of compliance management systems (CMS) and litigation shields that enhance business value for lenders.
He provides solutions that are at the intersection of compliance strategy, risk assessment, implementation and AI adoption for our clients. Very timely, Al brings a grounded perspective on the risk and accountability a lender should manage when adopting AI to increase lending efficiencies.
With over 20 years of experience in mortgage lending, 15 years in regulatory roles and 10 years in the Chief Compliance Officer role, Al brings unapparelled strategic and practical risk reduction expertise to our clients.
He began his career as an MLO and later moved on to a role in wholesale lending, thereby forming a deep understanding of business processes, business concerns, and business needs.
He then went on to build the CMS from the ground up as the various pieces of Dodd-Frank were implemented, taking on also the responsibility of managing his prior employer’s litigation portfolio. With civil and regulatory matters pending from Hawaii to New York, Al had developed a robust understanding of risk issues associated with administrative actions, civil enforcement actions, default related litigation, and in federal, state, and administrative courts.
Al has made presentations and argued positions to the U.S. Department of Justice, HUD, GNMA, FNMA, FHLMC, The New York State Department of Financial Services, and in state and federal court. He attended well over 100 mediations and has given at least as many depositions. This hands-on involvement gives Al the pragmatic understanding of compliance related risk, internal investigations and risk mitigation enabling him to create pragmatic and reliable solutions that position him as one of the most experienced in the field.
During his time in compliance Al participated in, or over seen over 200 state examinations including the largest Multi-State exam conducted to date. He participated in or oversaw over 100 other examinations conducted by HUD, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, GNMA, and OIG.
Al received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kansas, and currently serves on the Regulatory subcommittee of the MBA. He has earned a CMCP certification from MBA. He is also an MBA instructor.
In his spare time, he enjoys studying history and sharing his knowledge of wines. He aspires to make furniture one day, diligently building his tool collection in the meantime.
