Al Pitzner
Managing Director, Compliance Strategy, CMCP
Al is a consummate architect of compliance management systems (CMS) that enhance business value for lenders. He leads the compliance strategy, risk assessment, CMS creation and cross-functional compliance deployment for our clients.
With over 20 years of experience in mortgage lending, 15 years in compliance and 10 years in the Chief Compliance Officer role, Al brings unapparelled strategic, and practical expertise to Conforma.
Having begun his career as an MLO, and later moving on to a role in wholesale lending, Al has a deep understanding of business units, their concerns, and their needs.
Having built a CMS from the ground up as the various pieces of Dodd-Frank were implemented, Al took on the responsibility of managing his prior employer’s litigation portfolio. With civil and regulatory matters pending from Hawaii to New York, Al had developed a robust understanding of risk issues associated with administrative actions, civil enforcement actions, default related litigation, and in federal, state, and administrative courts.
Al has made presentations and argued positions to the U.S. Department of Justice, HUD, GNMA, FNMA, FHLMC, The New York State Department of Financial Services, and in state and federal court. Having attended well over 100 mediations and having given as many depositions Al’s understanding of compliance related risk, internal investigations, risk mitigation, and the creation of reliable solutions for compliance issues positions him as one of the most experienced in the field.
During his time in compliance Al participated in, or over seen over 200 state examinations including the largest Multi-State exam conducted to date. He participated in or oversaw over 100 other examinations conducted by HUD, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, GNMA, and OIG.
Al received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kansas, and currently serves on the Regulatory subcommittee of the MBA. He has earned a CMCP certification from MBA.
In his spare time, he loves studying history and enjoys telling his wife and daughter tales of the Roman Empire. He also dreams about making furniture one day, diligently preparing his tool chest for that moment.
